Mason St. Pierre has been selected to attend the 2008 American Music
Abroad Red Tour.
Pam announced that we are looking for a District Governor for the
2010-2011 year, any nominations?
Pam announced that the school is donating an old projector to the Club and
Eric has agreed to store it and bring it to the meetings when we need it.
Laurie Mitchell would like to begin an Interact Club of Middle School
students to help with the Helping Closet volunteer needs and to help with
the walk if we need anything. Wayne will put Laurie in touch with the
Interact person in Malone.
Pam reminded everyone about the District Assembly in Massena on Saturday,
May 3, let her know on April 23 rd if you will be attending.

Today's Program chair was Bengt Ohman. His speaker was Lionel Arland, past
District Governor. Lionel spoke about the Evolution of the Adirondacks.
Lionel was born in Saranac Lake and has been very active in the SL Rotary
and the Wild Center. Lionel spoke about the geology of the Adirondacks.
There are 46 Peaks and 3000 lakes and ponds in the Adirondacks. Lionel's
presentation was very detailed and interesting with a power point display
and discussion of how the Adirondacks and the earth has been formed over
1.2 billion years. My notes do not due this presentation justice. I will
list a few highlights. We live on the crust which is between 3 and 25
miles in depth. The largest Diamond mine is located in the Adirondacks in
Gore, NY. At one time the Adirondacks were tropical. Millions of years ago
a hot stop formed under the Adirondacks and that determined how the
mountains would be formed. The last major epic was the period of the
Glaciers, as the glaciers moved toward the oceans they sculpted the
mountains.. Lionel finished with a couple of pictures of the Saranac Lake
area that represent how the Adirondacks were formed. Please excuse the
limited notes, I was so busy listening that I didn't take very good notes.

Opening: The singing today was led by Greg Gachowski while the blessing was given by Kris Lauzon

Announcements: Proposed new members Linda Provo and Karen Pioli will be considered for
membership by TL Rotary Members at our next meeting, on Wednesday, April 16.

Dave Reed announced that former T. L. Rotary President, Jim Merkle , now an Idaho Rotarian,has
sent our club a $100.00 check as a contribution to the Foundation Walk to be held here, on May 10
in Tupper Lake.

Ricky Dattola announced that the Bowlathon to support Keene Valley Adult supportive Living Facility. will be at the
Tupper Lake Bowl on Sunday,April 20th between 2 and 4 pm. The cost is $15.00
( please donate or bring any more money or contributions that you can.)

Speakers: Mark Moeller said that President Elect Wayne Leonard intends to promote
TL Rotary involvement with local youth programs next year and asked
that he introduce Mike Fritts today. Mike who is the T.L. Youth Activities
Program Coordinator was our guest speaker last week. Mike presented additional
information about his plans for a Community Garden project. Mike sees the project as a
Youth activity that will also benefit community projects and dinners where vegetable
and vegetable products such as spaghetti sauce, can be used. Mike would like to find
or have donated for the project use, a piece of land in Tupper Lake Village
that could be used for the garden this year. Although the day camp that will work at the
garden is only for six weeks, Mike plans to have other volunteers maintain
and work the garden prior to and after the Day Camp.

Mike would like to get to starting the garden next month and is seeking input
from anyone who is a gardener and can offer advice or help and/or who would be
interested in being a guest speaker to the "campers" during the summer.

If you can help with supplying knowlege, a piece of land for the garden, equipment
(hoes, racks, wheel barrows etc.) or labor, please contact Mike Fritts at the
Town of Tupper Lake.

Lake Placid Rotarian and area Membership leader, Bob Hanna spke about his experience this
past year in Branford, Ontario with fellow Rotarians from the UK, Scotland, the US and
Canada. In addition to Rotary activities the common bond of Curling was also enjoyed.
Bob participated in a week long of curling by day and Rotary fellowship in the evenings
where information, ideas and fun were all exchanged.

The singing today was led by Greg Gachowski while the blessing was given by Rick Wilburn
The meeting was led by President Elect Wayne Leonard.

Guests: Linda Provo, prospective new member and guest of Gail Auclair. Linda introduced
herself and stated that she was a member of the Tupper Lake Business and Professional Womens
Club and is currently President of the BPW statewide organization.

Our other guest, Larry Cole was invited by Winn Benoit to be our guest speaker today.

Announcements: Wayne announced- A reminded to members that there will a district assembly
meeting on May 3 at the Massena High School beginning at 8:30 am and continuing to 3:30 pm.

High Peaks Hispice has request a donation from TL Rotary.
Mt Arab Lodge has request if we have interest in doing a booth at the Flea Market this year.

Mike Fritz has requested that TL Rotary become involved in a "Victory Garden" Project
for TL youth who may be interested.

That area sports writers may serve as commentators to work with Wayne this year in the
booth at the Rotary Allstar Game.

That a Board Meeting will occur at the TLHS Library at 7:pm on April 24th.

Eric Sears announced that TL Rotary will soon receive an invoice from "Tinman."

Bengt announced that significant floodig has taken place in Quito Ecuador in the
vicinity of the Working Boys Center

Program: Our guest speake, Mr. Larry Cole is the Tupper Lake Town Assessor.
Mr Cole discussed the recent reassessment that has been conducted townwide.
He said that there are two mreasons why the recent reassessment was necessary.

1. To put the equity back into the tax role. Properties appreciate at different rates
over time. Some properties have gone up in value 10 to 30 % over the past few years
while othere have inceased 300 % in value.

2. To get the equalization rate back to 100% This is an indication of the total value of
the real estate in the town of Tupper Lake.

Mr Cole gave some examples of how a propertty's value might be determined and also
explained that most properties were revalued in 2003 and their values did not change in
2004 but that the large assessment increases have mostly occured since then.

Discussion, involving several members, followed Mr. Cole's remarks.

TUPPER ROTARY CLUB MEETING/ March 26, 2008

The Tupper Lake Rotary Club met at the Pine Grove for lunch on Wednesday,
March 26th
13 of 31 members were in attendance and 5 guests were present- Ricky and
Pam had invited Liz Cordes and 2 students from the musical "The Boyfriend
to attend today's meeting. Lauren Colver and Linda Provost were also
guests today, both are very interested in joining the Tupper Lake Rotary
Club.
Ricky announced the Bowl a Thon that will take place on April 20th. We
need teams of 5 the cost is $15 per team member.
Pam announced a District Assembly in Massena on Saturday, May 3rd, the all
day program has something for everyone, Pam passed out agendas's to the
members present today. See Eric or Wayne the next couple of weeks if you
would like to see an agenda.
Eric announced an opportunity for the club to work with the Chamber during
Thunder Over Tupper. We will continue to talk about this opportunity and
keep the club informed.
Wayne would like some assistance in dedicating the Pavilion and putting
together some type of celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the Track
and Field.
Many Happy Dollars were given today because of the fine musical
performance at the Middle High School and our guests.
Todays speaker was Steve Wilson. Steve had lined up a speaker who ended up
out of town so Steve put together a short trivial pursuit game for those
in attendance. The questions were all about Rotary.
1. Who founded Rotary?
2. Where was it founded?
3. Where was the founder born?
4. What percent of meetings does a member have to attend to continue being
a member?
5. How much money did the Rotary Foundation start out with?
6. What decade did they put the notch in the center hole of the Rotary
Symbol?
7. Why did the founding fathers make the symbol look like a wheel?
8. What is the average size of a Rotary Club in Canada or the US?
9. Which was the first non-English speaking Rotary Club?
10. Is it possible to make-up a Rotary meeting at home on your computer?

TUPPER ROTARY CLUB MEETING/ March 19, 2008

TUPPER LAKE ROTARY At the Pine Grove March 19, 2008
Greg Gachowski led today's singing of the national Anthems while Rick
Wilburn gave today's blessing.

Announcements: President Pam Martin opened the meeting with the introduction
of her daughter, Nicolle, who is a Rotaract member at St Lawrence University
where she is a student.
Pam announced that today is Mark Moeller's birthday. Happy Birthday Mark!

Mark announced that TL Rotary received thanks from the TLHS Honor Society
for our

help with buying and selling the shamrocks to benefit MS.

Bengt Ohman announced that the ice cream machine is on its way from Miami to
the Working

Boys Center in Quito, Ecuador, with the transportation provided by the
Ecuadorian Navy.

The machine will be used to sell ice cream to help support the center.

Guest Speaker: Sandy Strader introduced Mike Fritz, the Town of Tupper
Lake's new Director of Recreation. Mike has been involved and interested in
sports, media and music.

Mike was born in Albany and participated in soccer, cross country and track
in high school and has done many hikes in the Adirondack High Peaks.

Mike has worked in Radio and Television media for several years and was most
recently an

on air personality and Assistant news director at Mountain Communications,
including its

local WNBZ Radio station.

Mike has begun his duties by working to create a Cross Country Ski course at
the TL Country Club. A snow machine has been acquired to "groom" the trails.
Mike is working with the TLHS Art Club to create directional and
informational signs for the trails. Mike is also working to coordinate the
Day Camp for kids this summer with the museum and is planning to create
gardening and/or birding program to set up bird houses. Mike would like to
have the kids raise funds for a trip later in the summer. Mr. Fritz is
interested in creating fun, creative athletic and learning opportunities for
Tupper Lake's Youth.

Mike will also be coordinating baseball and soccer teams.

Mike will be working to create interactive opportunities with the
observatory, museum and "Next Stop Tupper Lake"

A new web site listing the youth activities activities, programs and
projects will be available soon at www.tupperlakeyouth.com

others to see what is going, how people can contribute and what is available
"to do."

Greg Gachowski suggested that the TL Rotary Board consider a donation to the
Soccer refreshment program associated with the TL Youth Recreational
Program.

President Martin read a thank you note from the Heritage Museum.
Mark Moeller reminded everyone to return their Shamrocks to him and he
would deliver the money and left over Shamrocks to the Honor Society
members.
Dave Reed received an e-mail from Jim Merkle.

Ricky Datolla introduced Jim Merrihew. Jim talked about the new Physical
Education system . Jim has taught elementary PE for twenty years. When he
began they played elimination games. Now the focus is on keeping the
students in the games from the beginning to the end. The students still do
"basketball" but they don't play a game- they do challenges like the "600
Point Challenge". The emphasis is on life-long healthy skills, "wellness".
The District was involved in a PEP grant that provided us with a lot of
equipment that has helped to teach the students life long activities. Jim
also talked about a lesson that was taught to him about "slanting the
rope". The activity was to keep raising the rope and having students go
over the rope, at one point some of the students could no longer go over
the rope, when the students were questioned about what could be changed to
make all students successful the answer was "Slant the Rope", then
everyone can be successful and continue to play in the game. Jim also
thanked the Rotary for the Track which has allowed the students to run the
Dream Mile and participate in other activities.

Tupper Lake Youth Program Coordinator.

Announcements: President Elect� Wayne Leonard led today's meeting with the
announcement that Marty Modzier has agreed to run to be our next year's
Vice President.
Mark Moeller announced that he still has "Shamrocks" for sale on behalf of the
Tupper Lake High Honor Society to benefit MS. Mark also suggested that Tupper
Lake Rotary (in addition to individual donations) donate $200.00 to the Honor Society.
Honor Society members have agreed to help with the Foundation Walk in May.
Ricky Dattola announced that nominations and booster club info has gone out for this years
All Stars Game to be held around or about July 17.
Both Rick Wilburn and Ricky announced that there will be red and black hats
(TLHS Lumberjack colors) with Rotary Insignia for the Foundation Walk which will double
for other Rotary and Tupper Lake functions.
Wayne Leonard thanked Eric Sears for the great job that he has done on the data base for
the advertisements for the Rotary ALLSTARS Program/Brochure.
Wayne asked members to take a look at the RI website information about "Shadowing" programs
where a youth follows your business activities for a day.

Today's Program: Our guest speakers were Keith Wells of the Airport Committee and Larry Miller,
�the Harrietstown Town Supervisor. The reviewed the airport' s past and present activities,
programs, goals and contributions to the tri lakes communities and economies.
The airport was built in 1942 and has expanded and been improved considerably.
There are about 117 jobs and about $10 million dollars of regional impact.
�
The airport has a very low impact on the local tax payer in Harrietstown which owns and
operates the airport. Most improvements and equipment is supported around 95% by Federal
money. The airport has modern fire service, runway maintenance, aircraft service lighting
and instrument approach facilities. The airport complements and provides mutual aid to
other government services.�
�
The airport soon will welcome a new manager and assistant manager. Coming soon will be a
complete repaving of Charlie Taxiway and� the tarmack area along with the installation of a
�new rotating beacon. The airport also plans contructon of some more hangers and hopes to
�facilitate constrution of a corporate aviation reception area ( terminal) This facility would
have a pilot prep area and sleeping quarters along wih a large area that could be used to receive
groups or to have meetings or conferences.
�
The airport hopes to attract charter tours flights, more tenants, improve the flight offerings of
the new scheduled carrier,CAPE AIR, which now has service to Boston,and to increase corporate
�aviation use.
�
The Adirondack Regional Airport would like Tupper Laketo support and participate with it in t
the future. They hope to have another airshow in 2009.

Opening: Vice President Eric Sears, who was soon joined by President Pam Martin,
opened the meeting along with Song Master Greg Gachowski who led the opening singing the US and
Canadian National Anthems. Benoit gave the blessing.

Announcements: Rick Dattola introduced three members of the Tupper Lake High School Honor Society
including their President Bobby Lawyer. The Honor Society is selling "Shamrocks" to support the Muscular
Dystropy Campaign. Several Rotary Members purchased the Shamrockk which are 1, 5 and 10 dollars.

Guest: Laurie Culver of the Girls Scouts, Plattsburg and Saranac Lake offices', was Pam's guest.

Today’s Program: Today we discussed the membership campaign. We all filled out a brief one
question questionaire which asked "What I like Most about My Rotary Club is:" The responses
showed that what is most important is the feeling of informality and commoradery along with
service to our community.

Those present at today's meeting discussed some of the things that we could do from a variey of
possibilities to promote and build our club.

Those ideas advanced for consideration and activation were:

A Rotary Alumni "party" to possibly reactivate former Rotarians.

A "potential new members" Rotary Introduction Party.

An " Ice Cream social" for the community to accompany the TL day on July 19. ( Marti )

"Rotary" jackets or windbreakers ( they would complement the TL Rotary hats that will be coming
for the Foundation walk on May 10 .) (Ricky )

February 20,2008

Opening: President Pam Martin and Song Leader Greg Gachowski led the opening singing the US and Canadian National
Anthems. Mark Moeller gave the blessing.

Announcements: President Martin announced that there are some questions about the 2010 International Covention
scheduled to be held in Montreal. At this point several of the individuals there responsible for the event have resigned.

Last month Beth Davis of the Keene Valley Adult Supportive Living Facility asked our club to participate in a Bowling
Tournament to benefit their facility. Ricky Dattola is putting together a such an event.
Please contact Ricky to participate in this event which will be open to anyone.

Special Event: Gail Auclair was inducted as our newest member and has gone right to work helping Sandy
with coordination of the advertizing for this years rotaryallstar brochure. Congratulations Gail!

Program: Ricky and Wayne discussed the proceedure for obtaining the correct copy for advertizing in this year's Football
Program. It would always be preferable if the advertizer had an ad last year and wants to have the same ad run this year.
We are also looking for groups, booster clubs and even individuals who wish to put an ad in the Football Program.
Ads range in price from $70 to $500.

Wayne explained that it is very important not to write on, staple, tape or otherwise damage or
alter the actual ad copy. If additional information is necessary it should be placed on a separate document.

Advertisement copy should be black and white if at all possible. Wayne handed out a one page sheet explaining
the proceedure for obtaining the ad copy. It is best to collect a check for the ad at the time the ad copy is picked up
and send or deliver the ad copy and check in an envelope to Sandy Strader as described in the brochure.

The time for return of all ads and ad copy is June 10.

Ricky introduced Ashley, the intern who is workig on the rotaryallstar program.

TUPPER ROTARY CLUB MEETING/ February 13, 2007

TUPPER LAKE ROTARY February 13, 2008 at the Pine Grove

Opening: Vice President Eric Sears and Song Leader Greg Gachowski led the
opening singing the US and Canadian National Anthems. Rev. Rick Wilburn gave
the blessing.

Announcements: Vice President Sears said that we have only four "Rotary"
cups left. Rick Datolla said that he could order some more. Some discussion
then took place about whether or not the design or other features of the cup
should be changed.

Secretary Rick Wilburn handed out some membership cards and announced that
he has or will have cards soon for all members who have paid their dues.

Program: Rick Wilburn explained that as of this weekend there are 88 days
remaining until the Foundation Walk on May 10.

Registration and evening events will occur on Friday, May
9. Mike Husinger has made arrangements for the Honor Society to serve and
the school cafeteria to prepare the lunch after the walk.Maps and
informational "sandwich boards"

have been prepared. Rick has contacted places of interest along the route to
obtain the use of "facilities" and the presence of speakers to explain the
activities at the locations. The Rescue squad has been contacted to be
available.

Each walker will be charged $35.00 but walkers are also encouraged to
collect donations or pledges for their participation. Rick will be obtaining
foundation walk/Tupper lake Rotary hats for the event.

Rick will be contacting all District 7040 Clubs for donations and to advise
them about the walk. He expects that the District Governor will be at the
even t and pass out the awards. Any one can be a walker and participate. All
